The financial crisis in Greece gives the opportunity to citizens to be organized in forms able to offer the possibility to have access to goods and services without the use of a currency.
It is called TEM (Τοπική Εναλλακτική Μονάδα) which means Local Alternative Currency. One TEM equals to one euro.
Transactions can me made in TEMs or in a combination of euros and TEMs.
The TEM market is open every Wednesday and Saturday in a building that was granted by the University of Thessaly in the area of Palaia of the city of Volos in Greece. Here the
TEM members can find local products, used items, clothing, second-hand books or can have a coffee with homemade sweets. For each transaction members get a TEM receipt which then they register in the computer system.
